About The Role

Responsibility Breakdown

The Bid Manager will assemble a Virtual Bid Team with the relevant service/product/ business knowledge required to prepare a winning bid and take ownership of the end-to-end bid production process for that bid. This is a highly networked role that requires an ability to work under pressure and to challenging deadlines. It will require strong people management skills in a dynamic sales environment. 

Responsibilities will include:
Pre Proposal

Detailed input into the Bid/No Bid process through the structured Qualification calls
Initiate best practice bid governance process from first engagement through to completion of contracting phase

Production Phases

Ownership and management of all Bid materials needed throughout the customer’s procurement and management of the Bid through the Bid Production process from allocation through to the customer’s Win/Loss decision
Creation of a Bid Plan that defines the resources required to complete the bid, the actions that each Virtual Bid Team member is required to complete and the deadlines that the actions are required for
Securing the required resources by gaining ‘buy in’ from the relevant manager
Detailed and creative early-stage storyboarding of the ITT response to produce a Bid Template that is compelling whilst being compliant with the customer’s ITT
Management of the Bid Team to deliver the required outputs to support the timely delivery of the bid
Strategic Review of Virtual Bid Team member’s content and leadership of the content producers to ensure that compelling content is produced with a clear Value Proposition and Business Benefits
Full ownership of quality management throughout any materials produced (spelling, grammar, formatting, brand control etc.)
Management of business risk throughout the process: ensuring that risks are collated, mitigation plans are put in place and Bid stakeholders are managed appropriately
The Bid Manager will be responsible for facilitating and playing a key role in the development of a winning Value Proposition and Win Themes, the on-going evaluation and mitigation of Win risk throughout the process (qualification, competitors etc.) and appropriate action should risk exist
Post Production Phases

Leading probing Win/Loss and Lessons Learned sessions for all bids managed and creating the final Win/Loss reports showing clear root cause analysis


The Bid Manager will be assigned various project based objectives and be expected to manage Bid workload to deliver these on time and to high quality
Proactive engagement with Sales Management to establish a clear pipeline of expected tenders

About You

About you:
Educated to NVQ level 4, degree/HND or equivalent qualification normally expected;
Experience in a Bid/Proposal Management environment with clear experience in leading winning Bid Teams;
APMP Foundation level qualified (ideal but not a pre-requisite)
Ability and experience to break down all actions needed to complete a bid (both content and work stream) and understand the dependencies of these actions in order to build an accurate Bid Plan;
Has a good commercial, technical and operational understanding in order to question and manage all complex workstreams required;
A good understanding of how customers use the solutions the Claranet provides and the benefits these could bring to their business;
A good understanding of our key competitors and how Claranet is positioned against them
Leadership skills: this is not a reactive role
Excellent communication, written and spoken English essential with the ability to spot and correct spelling and grammatical errors in text written by others and create compelling text themselves;
The creative skills and vision to create compelling content and produce graphics to replace wording where appropriate;
Expert working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel to allow accurate manipulation and formatting of bid and presentation templates without supervision;
Excellent interpersonal skills in communicating with staff at all levels with the ability to form strong working relationships. Comfortable building business wide, middle management level personal networks;
Ability to work accurately with an eye on detail;
Strong time management allowing prioritisation of a complex and varied workload;
Ability to work as part of a team, with a flexible approach to work;
Proactive, hardworking and flexible when approaching challenging deadlines;
Be able to challenge effectively and continually push for delivering innovative solutions;
Customer-facing and experienced in attending Bid Workshop and Presentations.
