About The Role

The Network Solution Architect function is part of the Solution Design team working alongside other Product Specialized Solution Architects and Pre-Sales Architects. You will be responsible for the requirement gathering, scoping and solution design of Claranet’s customer network solutions.  The primary focus of the Solution Design team, through responsive, communicative and innovative activity, is to work closely with the Business Development Managers, Sales Specialists and our customers to ensure that we meet their expectations from initial engagement and throughout the sales engagement lifecycle.

The core responsibility of the Solution Architect role is to provide solution ownership and guidance during the sales process through the identification and clarification of a customer technical and business requirements and applying them to the design of value-based propositions using the Claranet business unit portfolio.  While the core of solution design within the business unit will be built from the Claranet network and communications portfolio, you will be required at times to incorporate bespoke technology services to design the most appropriate solution and service to deliver against a customer’s specific requirements.  In such instances you are expected to work with other relevant Claranet teams to ensure that Claranet can deliver and support these bespoke services effectively and potentially incorporate them into our standard portfolio.

When engaged, the Solution Architect owns and is responsible for the overall quality of the client technical solution, working, where required, with other technical experts across Claranet to provide deliverable and supportable solutions for our customers. As the technical owner the Solution Architect is a key contributor to the Claranet sales and customer lifecycle providing a knowledge transition bridge from their design and technical scoping through to the Claranet project and provisioning teams for the successful delivery of the services.

While the Network Solution Architect role is primarily desk based there will be a requirement for national travel will be expected to attend off-site activity such as, customer meetings & workshops and vendor/technology events nationally as required.

About You

Essential duties & responsibilities

  • Support the Network and Communication sales teams and bid management department with customer opportunities and Request For Proposal type bids by taking responsibility for technical solution design, dealing with ad-hoc requests from sales which may include attending on and off site customer meetings and presentations.
  • Participate in customer meetings to establish key drivers and requirements and propose appropriate solutions to meet these, working closely with sales and other supporting teams to ensure that there is a balance between design and price/customer budget.
  • Must be able to articulate and design technical solutions based on the technologies underpinning the Claranet network and communication portfolio.
  • Accountable for the successful handover to the Service Delivery team and the accuracy of the design specification to installation.
  • Manage any custom requirements within the business, including working with the relevant technical and pricing experts within Operations and Finance where necessary.
  • Provide expert knowledge and support to others across the business in relation to the Solution Architect role.
  • Manage general technical questions and queries from the sales community in pursuit of new business growth.
  • Build and maintain supporting documentation to enable greater self-service by the sales teams.
  • Where necessary provide/facilitate training to enable the sales team’s greater self-sufficiency with customer opportunities.
  • Provide market and sales feedback to Product Management.
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with key teams across the organization, contributing to Claranet’s collaboration community.

Essential

  • Previous experience of working within a Solution Design Team or as a Subject matter expert within at least one of the core technical areas of focus.
  • A strong understanding of design and delivery of managed solutions.
  • Experience of working with customers to understand their requirements and translate this into solution designs.
  • Ability to scope and design technical solutions including network, security and communication services.
  • A flexible and pro-active approach.
  • Experience of writing technical/solution documentation addressing customer requirements.
  • Desire to work within a solutions / consultative technical sales environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, written, and verbal.
  • Able to communicate and present to a non-technical and technical audience.
Good understanding of the technologies behind Claranet’s network products, such as:
  • Ethernet, EFM, EoFTTC, Leased Lines
  • FTTC/P, SoGEA, ADSL
  • Mobile Broadband (4G/5G)
  • MPLS, SD-WAN, SASE, IPSec / SSL VPN / ZTNA
  • Firewalls & Advanced Threat Detection Services
  • TCP/IP, Routing, Switching
  • Cisco, Cisco Meraki, Fortinet
  • VoIP, Hosted Communications, MS365, MS Teams
  • Self-motivated problem solver.
  • Ability to cope under pressure.
  • Diligent with an attention for detail.
  • Enthusiasm and drive to succeed.
  • Ability to work on own initiative with a strong time management and ability to prioritize.
  • Keen to continue to develop technical and consultancy skills.
  • Full Driving License.
Desirable
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working in telecoms or with a network provider.
  • Technical accreditations or part accreditations e.g. CCNA, CCNP, CMNA, Fortinet NSE.
